More important than the features, your team, the design, the pricing - everything. Without market validation you’ll have a product that no one will pay for. You’ll burn a lot of time, energy and cash and you’ll end up stressed, probably depressed and definitely burned out. * Contents: * Step 1: Write Down the Problem, not a Specific Solution * Step 2 :  Determine if it is a Tier 1 Problem or Not * means the problem you’re looking to solve is one of the top 3 problems your potential customers are experiencing. * Step 3: Properly Determine Existing Solutions * Don’t ask your potential customers “which product do you use to solve that problem today?” because they might not use a specific product. Instead, ask “so how do you handle that today?” and just listen. They might use a product or they might hack together a bunch of tools or processes to solve the problem. * Step 4: Look for Pain in Existing Solutions * It’s OK to have feature parity as a baseline, but that should only be 80% of your product. There should be at least 20% that’s better — not different just to be different, but distinctly better. * A clear benefit potential customers can see and understand when comparing your product to others. And one that you can position around after you launch. * Step 5: Verify There’s a Budget for a Solution * You also want to set a second follow up with at least 10 of the prospects you spoke with on the phone and get their views on pricing. Not specific, “$5/user/month” pricing, but their initial reaction to paying for a solution to the product they told you they were experiencing. * You’ll get one of three responses: * They’ll come right out and say they won’t pay for it * They’ll be somewhere in the middle — non committal, if you like * They’ll say they would pay for it * After talking to at least 10 prospects on the phone about pricing, you want 5 or more to say yes to pricing. Not to a specific price, but yes to actually paying for your solution when it’s ready. * Step 6: Use Your Prospects to Define your Roadmap * Assuming you solve a tier 1 problem that enough people will pay for, you now have a somewhat captive audience of 10/20/30/50 people. * If you decide to proceed with your startup (congratulations!) you now have a built-in audience you can talk to about features, wireframes, design, and more as you build out your product. * [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6WfA6PtxXw|How to Find Profitable Startup Ideas (Exact Process, Step-by-Step)]] by Oskar Bader (video) * not fancy, BUT resolve real problem * search (e.g. at reddit or facebook) for: * i hate it when * I'm frustrated with * why it is so hard to * is there a tool for * (but use not too old links, better search for posts < 1 year) * make an Excel sheet with columns: * problem desc * Proof * old way * Money * Can I solve it? * Fulfilment * take only problems which will fulfill you at least for a couple of years * search for competitors * my note: do a SWOT analysis? * use ChatGPT to sketch a solution proposal * [[https://www.shopify.com/de/blog/womit-selbststaendig-machen?term=business%20starten&adid=588935920011&campaignid=15439902434&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&matchtype=p&network=g&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=15439902434&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz9_QBhD_ARIsADnSCfCR0KUveDZ6RRQ5pNK1WvhPQ91y_y18Pn92c6JL2DCLatCY0R4SCXkaAtd6EALw_wcB#1|Womit selbstständig machen? 40 Home-Business-Ideen]] ===== Software Application ===== The application should be: * used by small companies * it would give us the freedom to not to do the first level support.
