Backup Solutions for Linux

Overview

The simple good solution is

My preferences:

  1. Areca - good balance between simplicity and “feature-richness”
  2. Back In Time - like Deja Dup but Deja Dup a little bit too simple
  3. Bacula - very mighty but also difficult and complicated
  4. Deja Dup - too simple?

Areca

  • Good balance between simplicity and “feature-richness”.
  • Open source
  • Java / Eclipse (“GWT”)
  • Only one point is not good: the last version is dated 2015.

Back In Time

Simple and good. A little bit better than Deja Dup (Ubuntu's standard solution).

German documentation

At the moment I'm using Back In Time: /media/diskstation/backup/backintime/backintime

Sometimes it wants a password. I'm used all my password but did not understood whether it worked. Last time I've used ya…08

BackupPC

Seems to be good (and not very complicated), but the configuration can be made only through WebUI. So it will be necessary to run a web server.

Bacula

Very good and very feature rich solutions.

Contra: it is too complicated. Documentation says that it is necessary to read 6 captures for “Quick start”.

Duplicity

Solution for command line.

Deja Dup

Roughly to say: it is a UI for Duplicity.
